Privacy Policy

Meta Caddie Effective Date: October 2026 (updated to disclose that every user's AI caddie requests go to our AI model provider, conversation logging for AI improvement and how to opt out, course search near you via GolfAPI.io, passive listening after shots, the in-app AI data-sharing consent, satellite hole-map screenshots sent for shot planning, on-device-only speech recognition, the account ID and email shared with RevenueCat, Sentry crash and error diagnostics, and the services that receive bug reports) Operated by: 1Putt Health

Overview

Meta Caddie is a golf caddie app for iPhone, Apple Watch, and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

The short version: Your golf data is stored on your device and synced to our cloud backend (Supabase) so it follows you across devices. We don't sell your data. We don't track you off the course. The app asks you before it first shares anything with its AI providers (see “AI data sharing consent” below). If you allow it, the AI caddie sends your caddie questions, the round context it needs to answer them, any camera frame you ask it to look at, and satellite hole-map screenshots used for shot planning to our AI model provider through our server; caddie replies are sent to our text-to-speech provider to be spoken aloud. We keep a log of those AI requests to improve the caddie. You can opt out of that log in Settings → About → AI Training Data, which stops logging for every AI feature (see “Conversation logs for AI improvement” below).

Data We Collect

Data You Provide

  • Profile information: Name, handicap, club distances, preferences
  • Email address: The email address Sign in with Apple shares with us (your real address or an Apple private-relay address), if you choose to share one
  • Round data: Scores, shot locations, club selections, feedback

Data Collected Automatically

  • GPS location: Used during your round to calculate distances to greens, hazards, and track shot positions. During an active round, location updates continue in the background — including when your phone is pocketed or the screen is locked — so live yardages stay current; iOS shows a persistent location indicator while this is happening. Background location is disabled the moment you end the round. Outside a round, the app uses your location only while it is open on screen, for example to find courses near you when you pick a course (your coordinates are sent to GolfAPI.io for that search). We do not use your location in the background outside of active rounds.
  • Motion data (Apple Watch): Accelerometer data used to detect golf swings. Raw motion waveforms are processed on-device and never transmitted. During your first 10 rounds (the calibration training window), per-hole summaries — detected swing count, entered strokes and putts, and the per-context threshold the detector used — are uploaded to our backend (Supabase) so the detector improves with use. Raw accelerometer samples are never part of those summaries.
  • Camera frames (iPhone or Ray-Ban Meta glasses): When you ask the caddie to assess your lie, one camera frame is captured. For a Course View question, the app records a short video clip (up to 5 seconds) and takes up to four frames from it. The frames are sent through our server to our AI model provider for analysis. They are not saved on your device, and the Course View clip is deleted from your phone once the frames are taken. A copy is kept in our private conversation logs unless you opt out of conversation logging in Settings → About → AI Training Data (see “Conversation logs for AI improvement” below).
  • Push notification token: If you enable notifications, Apple issues a device push token (APNs) that we store in our backend (Supabase) so we can deliver notifications to your device. The token identifies your device for delivery only; it is not used to track you.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not keep audio recordings of your voice or of conversations around you (speech is turned into text; see “Microphone” below)
  • We do not use facial recognition
  • We do not track your location in the background outside of active rounds
  • We do not build profiles of other players on the course. Passive listening (see “Microphone” below) can pick up what people near you say; that text is used only as context for the caddie's next reply
  • We do not access your contacts, photos, or other personal data

AI data sharing consent

  • Asked before the first AI use: before Meta Caddie first sends anything to our AI model provider or our text-to-speech provider, it shows a one-time “Share data with the AI caddie?” sheet that lists what each service receives. It appears when you reach the main app after sign-in, or on your first AI caddie request, whichever comes first
  • Allow: the AI caddie works as described in this policy
  • Not now: nothing is sent to either provider. GPS distances, scoring and the built-in offline club suggestions keep working; the caddie's voice uses the voice built into your iPhone, and the background listens described under “Microphone” stay off
  • Change it at any time: Settings → About → AI Data Sharing. Signing out clears the choice, so the next person to sign in on the phone is asked
  • Conversation logging is a separate setting: Settings → About → AI Training Data (see “Conversation logs for AI improvement” below)

Camera and Microphone

Camera (iPhone or Ray-Ban Meta Glasses)

  • The camera — either your iPhone's camera or, when connected, the Ray-Ban Meta glasses' camera — is used only for lie and course analysis when you explicitly request it ("Caddie, look at my lie")
  • Camera access is activated only for that request; when using the glasses, their LED indicator illuminates while the camera is active
  • Captured frames are sent through our server to our AI model provider for analysis
  • Frames are not saved on your device. A copy is kept in our private conversation logs unless you opt out of conversation logging in Settings → About → AI Training Data (see “Conversation logs for AI improvement” below)
  • No facial recognition or biometric processing is performed

Microphone

  • You start a conversation with the caddie by wake word ("Hey Caddie") or touchpad tap
  • Passive listening during a round: only if you allow AI data sharing. After a shot is confirmed, and when you walk onto or off a green, the caddie may listen in the background for up to 60 seconds so it can react to what is happening around you. The speech is turned into text on your iPhone, the audio is not recorded, and the text is sent to our AI model provider as context with the caddie's next reply (and kept in our conversation logs; see below). It can include what other people near you say. iOS shows its microphone indicator while the microphone is on
  • Speech recognition runs on-device only: the app requires Apple's on-device Speech recognition, so your speech is transcribed on your iPhone and that audio never leaves the phone. The app never uploads a recording of your voice. We do not store your voice recordings
  • Only the transcribed text is sent to our AI model provider, and only if you allow AI data sharing; never the raw audio
  • Spoken app feedback: if you ask the caddie to send feedback about the app, the transcript of that feedback goes to the Meta Caddie team by email (through Resend), not to an AI provider
  • In two-party consent states, we recommend informing your playing partners that the caddie listens

Data Storage and Security

  • Profile and round data are stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and synced to our cloud backend (Supabase) so they follow you across devices
  • Cloud rows are scoped to your account using Supabase Row Level Security — other users cannot read your data
  • Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth using Sign in with Apple; auth tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain
  • Local data on your device is encrypted at rest by iOS/watchOS device encryption; data in Supabase is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by the provider
  • AI caddie features transmit your caddie queries (and any camera frame you ask the caddie to look at) to our AI model provider via our backend proxy over HTTPS, where the provider processes them under its commercial API terms to produce the reply

Conversation logs for AI improvement

To evaluate and improve the AI caddie, our server keeps a log of the AI requests the app sends through it. This logging is on by default. You can opt out at any time in Settings → About → AI Training Data. Opting out stops logging for every AI feature in the app: your conversations with the caddie (the questions you ask, including text heard by passive listening, and its replies), camera lie checks, satellite hole-map shot planning, the onboarding chat, weekly coaching digests, post-round profile updates, between-shot context summaries, the trash-talk messages the caddie writes, and the audio of the caddie's spoken replies. Your requests are still answered. Opting out does not delete logs we already keep; to have those deleted, email privacy@1putthealth.com. To keep your data from leaving your phone at all, turn off AI data sharing in Settings → About → AI Data Sharing.

  • What is logged: your question to the caddie (including any text heard by passive listening), the caddie's reply, the shot context sent with it (for example handicap, hole number, distance to the green and wind), the camera frame if you asked the caddie to look at something, the satellite hole-map screenshots used for shot planning, and the audio of the caddie's spoken reply
  • What is removed first: names, email addresses, phone numbers and GPS coordinates are stripped from your question text before it is stored
  • Where: Supabase, in a private database table and private storage buckets that only our team can read
  • How it is linked to you: each log entry is keyed to a pseudonymous ID derived from your account ID with a secret salt. It does not contain your name or email, but it is not anonymous: we can link entries to your account
  • How long: we keep logs only as long as we need them to evaluate and improve the caddie. Deleting your account in the app does not yet remove these logs automatically; email privacy@1putthealth.com and we will delete the logs linked to your account
  • Opt-out record: when you opt out we record that you did, so we can measure how often people choose to
  • We do not sell these logs, share them with third parties, or use them to train outside companies' AI models

Your Rights

You can at any time:

  • View your data: All round history and profile data is visible in the app
  • Allow or stop AI data sharing: Settings → About → AI Data Sharing
  • Opt out of conversation logging: Settings → About → AI Training Data (stops logging for every AI feature; see “Conversation logs for AI improvement”)
  • Delete your account in-app: Settings → Delete Account. A two-step confirmation; on completion your profile, round history, watch calibration, accepted rules, and group memberships are deleted from Supabase, your Sign in with Apple link is removed, and you're signed out. The deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. If the in-app flow ever fails, email privacy@1putthealth.com and we'll complete it manually
  • Export your data: Round history can be exported (feature coming soon)

Children's Privacy

Meta Caddie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Users must be 13 or older to create an account (16 in the EU).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates when the policy was last updated.

Version history

  • October 2026 — removed the statements that only paid (Birdie / Eagle) tiers send caddie queries and camera frames to our AI model provider and caddie replies to our text-to-speech provider, and that a free tier never uses a cloud LLM. Meta Caddie 1.0 gives every user the AI caddie, so this policy now describes those transfers for everyone. Corrected the camera section, which said frames are never transmitted, to say they are sent to our AI model provider for analysis. Added the conversation logs for AI improvement (on by default, opt-out in Settings → About → AI Training Data) and removed the statements that camera frames and caddie queries are never kept. Disclosed that your location is sent to GolfAPI.io to find courses near you before a round, that the caddie can listen passively for up to 60 seconds after shots and on/off the green, that RevenueCat receives your account ID and Sign in with Apple email, Sentry crash and error diagnostics, and that bug reports and feedback go to Discord and Resend. Removed a "Reset Caddie Memory" setting the app does not have. Described the in-app AI data-sharing consent (asked before anything first goes to our AI model provider or our text-to-speech provider; Not now keeps the offline caddie; change it in Settings → About → AI Data Sharing), added the satellite hole-map screenshots sent to our AI model provider to plan your shot, and replaced the September statement that Apple may process speech on its servers: recognition is on-device only. Said that spoken app feedback goes to the Meta Caddie team. Said that the AI Training Data opt-out stops logging for every AI feature, not just caddie conversations, added your name and golfer profile to what our AI model provider receives, and removed the September description of a custom voice-cloning upload the app does not have. Now names the categories of AI providers that receive your data (an AI model provider and a text-to-speech provider) instead of naming the companies.
  • September 2026 — disclosed that GPS continues in the background during an active round only (with iOS's persistent location indicator) and stops when the round ends; added the APNs push notification token to data collected and stored in Supabase; disclosed the opt-in Eagle voice-cloning flow that uploads a user-recorded voice sample to our text-to-speech provider; corrected the speech-recognition description (Apple's Speech framework may process audio server-side in some cases); clarified that camera analysis covers both the iPhone camera and the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
  • June 2026 — added Phase B per-hole detection summary disclosure (uploaded during the first 10 rounds to refine swing detection). Documented in-app account deletion path (Settings → Delete Account). Marketing-site duplicate policy retired in favor of this canonical version at metacaddie.app.
  • May 2026 — initial cloud-sync disclosure following the Firebase → Supabase migration. Round data, profile, and group memberships now sync to Supabase scoped per-user via row-level security.
